Memory Compression exhibited at RGBMTL 2025
· exhibition
Several works from Memory Compression were presented at RGBMTL in Montreal as part of Objkt curator Kika Nicolela's selection.
Several works from Alex May’s Memory Compression series were featured at RGBMTL in Montreal, which took place from 22 to 23 August 2025. The presentation formed part of a selection curated by Kika Nicolela, head curator of Objkt, and placed the series within an artist-led event focused on digital art and the Tezos ecosystem.
The inclusion matters because Memory Compression is not just about digital aesthetics. It examines the hidden systems that shape contemporary image culture by pushing video compression until its artefacts become visible structure. Shown in the context of RGBMTL, the work’s focus on mediation, texture, and technological imprint connected clearly to Alex May’s wider practice around memory and the non-neutral behaviour of digital systems.
