Alex May took part in Forum Design Pays De La Meije on 2 July 2021, joining an online round-table chaired by Zoe Sfez for France Culture. The discussion brought together artists and researchers including Anna Dumitriu and boredomresearch to consider how human, plant, animal, natural, and artificial systems might interact in ways that are both sensitive and inspiring.

Rather than treating artificial intelligence as a detached technical subject, the event framed it within wider questions about ecology, coexistence, and the conditions through which life is understood. That made it a strong context for May’s work, which often places technological systems in contact with fragile ideas of memory, perception, and change.

The conversation also sits closely alongside projects such as ArchaeaBot, where speculative life-forms are used to think through environmental transformation and the uneasy relationship between the living and the non-living. In that sense, the round-table extended May’s wider practice by asking how technological systems reshape what is preserved, altered, or imagined within more-than-human worlds.
