EyeMyth Media Arts Festival invited Alex May to give an online talk in March 2022 about the development of A Kolkata, the moving-image work produced through the Indo-European Residency Project Kolkata after the residency shifted online during the pandemic.

The presentation focused on how the work was built from photographs made by collaborators in Kolkata and reconstructed through photogrammetry into a drifting digital city. Rather than treating virtual access as seamless, the talk set out how the project deliberately holds on to distance, partial knowledge, and the mediated nature of looking from afar.

That made the festival an apt context for the work. EyeMyth frames media art through immersive storytelling and new forms of digital practice, and May’s talk placed A Kolkata within those questions while keeping the emphasis on memory, place, and the unstable relationship between image, reconstruction, and lived experience.
