Creative Convergences: The Intersections Between Art and Science

Alex May joined Anna Dumitriu in conversation with Irini Papadimitriou at Diriyah Art Futures in Riyadh on Friday 17 January 2025 for Creative Convergences: The Intersections Between Art and Science.

The event formed part of the artists’ guest professorships at Diriyah Art Futures and sat within the institution’s wider January public programme. Listings around the programme described the talk as an exploration of the fertile ground between art and science, drawing on projects that range from robotics to biomedia.

For May, the conversation offered a chance to reflect on how collaboration across scientific research, digital systems, and speculative making can open up new artistic questions. In discussion with Papadimitriou and Dumitriu, he spoke about their shared practice and the ways emerging technologies can be used not simply to demonstrate innovation, but to create more poetic, critical, and materially grounded forms of inquiry.
