Alex May appointed Art Chair for ALIFE 2026
· announcement
Alex May has been appointed Art Chair for ALIFE 2026, the International Conference on Artificial Life, taking place in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, 17–21 August 2026.
ALIFE 2026 brings together artists, scientists, engineers, theorists and technologists to explore life and lifelike systems across biological, computational, robotic, ecological and artistic media.
The conference’s art programme is shaped around the theme “Living and Lifelike Complex Adaptive Systems”, inviting work that engages with life-as-it-is, life-as-it-could-be, and the adaptive processes through which living and lifelike systems emerge, evolve and transform.
Alex May joins Anna Dumitriu and Alina Huber as part of the arts leadership for the 2026 edition.
A public call for art submissions is now open, welcoming proposals across a wide range of practices, including bioart, generative and computational art, robotics, interactive installation, performance, sound, video, ecological approaches, and other speculative or critical engagements with Artificial Life.
